More Lighthouses

Burnham-on-Sea Low Lighthouse

A recent visit to Burnham-on-Sea in Somerset gave me the opportunity to see another three lighthouses, continuing my quest to complete The British Lighthouse Trail.

As well as the famous "Low Lighthouse" on the beach, there were views of the nearby High Lighthouse (now a private house, and currently under scaffolding), and the Round Tower (which is now part of a guest house on the Esplanade). The 1801 Round Tower lighthouse was discontinued in 1832 when the High and Low lighthouses were built as a pair of leading lights. Now only the Low Light is operational.

Lighthouse Lighthouse

That brings my lighthouse total to 144 of the 612 listed in the book. At least two of the lighthouses in my pictures have since been demolished (Orford Ness and the Royal Sovereign).

My full collection of lighthouse photos is here.
